源平討魔伝 "Genpei Toumaden" [The Genji & The Heike Clans Defeat Demon Story] is an old NAMCO Beat/Slash-em-Up Action Platformer in the Japanese Arcades from 1986 running on "NAMCO System 86" Arcade Software. The Games story is an elaborated and exaggerated adaptation of 平家物語 "Heike Monogatari", or "The Tale of the Heike", which is a historical account of the struggle between two clans, the Minamoto and Taira clans in 12th Century medieval Japan in what became known as the "Genpei War". The game itself was technologically ahead of its time--both looking and sounding like an early SEGA Genesis game such as "Altered Beast". Storyline-wise, the game took a large twist on the historical account through role-reversal. Making 平景清 "Kagekiyo-no-Taira" (the main protagonist throughout the video) into the Hero, while 武蔵坊弁慶 "Saito Musashibo Benkei", 源義経 "Minamoto-no-Yoshitsune", and his older brother (as well as the games final boss), 源頼朝 "Minamoto-no-Yoritomo". Bad guys are good, and good are bad. The promotional trailer gives a brief introduction of Kagekiyo. Dying from a series of arrows during the Battle of Dan-no-ura, Kagekiyo is ressurected from the Underworld by Emperor Enma and Old Lady Andaba and ordered to both avenge himself and save the world by slaying Yoritomo and liberating ancient Japan from his evil grasp. The footage itself has seen alot of "action". It was recorded with the cinematography abilities of an old "Godzilla" flick, and was later copied to "NAMCO Museum Vol. 4" as a special "Bonus, Alternate Game Introduction" by holding down L1+L2+R1+R2 when you boot the game up. The original 5 Namco Museums for PSX were the best ones in my opinion because they went into the most depth and gave you a virtual museum to walk around in. This copy however was recorded from a partially scratched Disc. I may remaster it later--Im very lucky to own the original five games seeing as they are quite rare nowadays.

The museum was established in 1835 by Mathieu Orfila as the Museum of Pathological Anatomy of the Medicine Faculty of the University of Paris, with the bequest of Baron Guillaume Dupuytren, anatomist and celebrated professor of surgery. The museum was installed in the old refectory of the Cordeliers Convent, gathering collections from throughout the faculty. Its first catalog was compiled between 1836 and 1842, and listed about a thousand specimens. By the late 1870s the museum contained over six thousand pieces. The museum began a slow decline, however, from later 1800s despite continued acquisition of new collections, and its upkeep became problematic. In 1937 Gustave Roussy ordered the museum shut, with many items subsequently lost or destroyed. However in 1967 Jacques Delarue (1901-1971) brought the museum back to life with a general refurbishment. Today it still retains a superb collection, including specimens dating from the 17th century, as well as wax anatomical models, books, and photographs. Among many other notable items, the museum contains brains of aphasic patients, preserved in alcohol by the celebrated anatomist Paul Pierre Broca, and used in his research in the localization of brain functions.

The Saxquest Saxophone Museum showcases a huge collection of many of the finest and rarest saxophones in the world as well as a collection of vintage saxophone accessories and other historic saxophone memorabilia. The museum is located on the 2nd floor of the Saxquest shop and is free and open to the public. Included in the museums collection is a fully restored quartet of original pre-civil war Adolphe Sax saxophones (soprano, alto, tenor and baritone). Adolphe Sax invented the saxophone in 1846 and very few of his original instruments still exist. Also featured is a Conn-O-Sax, made by the C.G. Conn company in 1928. This wonderful and fascinating instrument was the brainchild of their ill-conceived idea of replacing the orchestras English horn with a saxophone. Other highlights from the collection include a quintet of 1920s vintage gold plate artist model Conn saxophones (alto, c-melody, tenor, bari, bass) with exquisite hand cut engraving, a 1950s vintage arcrylic Grafton saxophone (made famous by Charlie Parker at Massey Hall in New York), a Selmer Paris saxophone commemorating their 1904 St. Louis Worlds Fair gold medal for clarinet design, and many other rare and one-of-a-kind saxes. From the huge bass saxophone to the obscenely small sopranisimo saxophone, the Saxquest Saxophone Museum is a real St. Louis treasure for the music lover or the eclectic museum goer. Here is an account of our visit to the Natural History Museum, South Kensington, London. The music is "Frozen Star" by Kevin MacLeod -incompetech. The following info is from Wikipedia ... Another iconic display is the parallel skeleton and model of a blue whale. The display of the skeleton, weighing 10 tons and some 25m long, was only made possible in 1934 with the building of the New Whale Hall (now the Large Mammals Hall), though it had been in storage for 42 years since its stranding on sandbanks at Wexford Bay. Discussion of the idea of a life-size model also began around this time, and work was undertaken within the Whale Hall itself. Since taking a cast of such a large animal was deemed prohibitively expensive, scale models were used to meticulously piece the structure together. During construction, workmen left a trapdoor within the whales stomach, which they would use for surreptitious cigarette breaks. Before the door was closed and sealed forever, some coins and a telephone directory were placed inside - this soon growing to an urban myth that a time capsule was left inside. The work was completed - entirely within the hall and in full view of the public - in 1938. At the time it was the largest such model in the world, at 28.3m in length, though the construction details were later borrowed by several American museums, who scaled the plans further. The Darwin Centre is host to Archie, an 8 metre long giant squid taken alive in a fishing net near the Falkland Islands in 2004. The squid is not on general display, but stored in the large tank room in the basement of the Phase 1 building. On arrival at the museum, the specimen was immediately frozen while preparations commenced for its permanent storage. Since few complete and reasonably fresh examples of the species exist, wet storage was chosen, leaving the squid undissected. A 9.45m acrylic tank was constructed (by the same team that provide tanks to Damian Hirst), and the body preserved using a mixture of formalin and saline solution. The museum holds the remains and bones of the River Thames Whale that lost its way on 20 January 2006 and swam into the Thames. Although primarily used for research purposes, and held at the museums storage site at Wandsworth, the skeleton has been put on temporary public display.
